Interview with Michelle!

I have some very exciting news!  A few days ago I sent an email to Michelle from the wonderful blog, Blogging from the Boonies, asking if she would answer a few questions so that I could interview her for my blog.  Michelle is one of my favorite Compassion Bloggers and she is such and inspiration to me and many others.  Yesterday she emailed me back and sent such an AMAZING response to my questions!  So today I have an interview from the one and only Michelle for you!!!  Here are the questions I asked her...

When and how did you first hear about Compassion?
In May of 2009, I was chatting with a friend from church when she mentioned being happy that they had just received a letter from a child they sponsored through Compassion International. She very briefly explained sponsorship and how she was able to write and receive letters from the children. It was a short part of our conversation, but it stuck with me.
When I got home, I looked up Compassion online. Admittedly, part of me was skeptical and I thought I would soon find something about the organization that sent up red flags.  However, the more I read, the more positive reviews and remarks I found. Some time later, I brought up the subject with my husband and asked if he thought we would be able to sponsor a child.  (Little did he know, the sweet face of Precious from Ghana was already imprinted on my heart.) At that time, we had a piece of property up for sale and he told me that, if we sold the property, we could go ahead and start a sponsorship. Every day, I would check and see if Precious was still on the Compassion website. On the day we finally sold the property and we had the check in hand, my husband told me to go online and start the sponsorship.  On June 27th 2009, we became proud sponsors to our first child!
What do you enjoy most about sponsoring a child?
It really is such a blessing to be able to to have this amazing connection with these beautiful children and families around the world.  I love many aspects of sponsoring, but especially enjoy writing letters and reading the replies that we receive.  These letters are a way to encourage and share love. I have been able to meet many young people who were once sponsored in the program and every testimony touched on how special and important those letters can be in the life of a child living in poverty.

What is your favorite part of having a blog?
In the years that Blogging from the Boonies has grown and evolved, I have been most blessed by the many wonderful people I have come to know. While most of us have never met in person, I cherish the relationships that have come from the community of sponsors that stop by my blog.  I've been humbled by the outpouring of support and prayers when I have needed them. I've been encouraged by the generosity shown when I have shared children in need of sponsors or have offered co-sponsorship opportunities. Each comment that comes my way makes me smile and each friend I've gained is a treasure.

Once again thank you so much Michelle for the wonderful responses!  If anyone would like to visit her great blog you can do so by clicking this link Blogging from the Boonies
